Digital Matrimony
Are You Looking for a Life Partner Online? Stay Alert & Stay
Safe
With the rise of digital platforms, matrimonial websites have
become a common way to find a life partner. While they offer
convenience and reach, users must exercise caution to avoid
falling prey to fraud, impersonation, or financial scams.
Be Cautious When Using Matrimonial Websites
-
Use Verified Platforms: Choose well-known
matrimonial sites with good reviews. Speak with friends and
family to verify authenticity.
-
Create a Separate Email ID: Avoid using
your personal email. Don’t share phone numbers, photos, or
addresses publicly.
-
Do Background Checks: Verify identity
through family, workplace, or friends. Never rely only on
online communication.
-
Keep Family Informed: Always update your
family on your interactions and decisions regarding
potential matches.
-
Meet in Public Places: Never meet privately
at the initial stage. Inform friends or family about your
meeting details.
-
Ask Questions: Get to know the other person
well. Look for inconsistent or vague answers.
-
Don’t Share Personal Information: Withhold
sensitive data until fully verified. Avoid pressure tactics.
-
Never Share Sensitive Photos: Avoid sending
personal or intimate photos, as they can be misused for
blackmail or fraud.
-
Don’t Send Money: Refuse financial
requests. Most fraudsters use emotional manipulation to
extract money.
-
Be Extra Careful with NRI Profiles: Insist
on face-to-face meetings, verify documents, and speak to
family or relatives.
Warning Signs of a Fraudster
-
Uses multiple or changing phone numbers and avoids callbacks
- Unwilling to appear on video calls or meet in person
- Lacks a genuine or active social media presence
- Expresses love or strong interest too quickly
-
Asks about your financial status early in conversation
